Mr. Coates concentrates his practice in the areas of business litigation, real estate litigation and development, and personal injury cases. He has extensive experience in complex civil litigation, including breach of contract, and business tort disputes in a variety of industry settings. These industries include the coal, equipment and aircraft lease, title, construction, disability and casualty insurance, securities, and lender industries.
Mr. Coates also represents clients in real estate transaction and litigation matters, involving acquisition, land planning, and real estate development issues. Clients include developers, contractors, real estate agents, brokers and title companies on various issues related to real property.
In the area of personal injury, Mr. Coates has served as insurance company appointed counsel for many business entities. He also maintains a significant plaintiff’s practice representing individuals who have been injured in automobile accidents, product liability cases, industrial accidents, and wrongful death matters. As an adjunct to this practice, Mr. Coates pursues related insurance claims, including bad faith breaches of insurance contracts.
