Mr. Lamm was part of a team of attorneys who sued the United States Atomic Energy Commission to prevent them from detonating an atomic bomb deep underground near Rulison, Colorado. The theory of the Atomic Energy Commission was that the bomb blast would crack the shale in that area, releasing major amounts of natural gas for public consumption. Mr. Lamm ultimately prosecuted the case in Federal District Court, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and had an emergency hearing before the United States Supreme Court. Ultimately the Atomic Energy Commission was permitted to detonate their bomb, but to this day, not a single cubic foot of commercial natural gas has been extracted from the Rulison area. |
